Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EiR)

ilab draws on the talent and experience of a number of highly valued, serial entrepreneurs who are working in the local and international start-up community.  Our EiRs work on a rotational basis with the businesses and individuals participating in ilab programs. Below is the bio of our current EiR, Peter Davison.

Peter Davison, Canberra and Sydney

After growing up in Brisbane, Peter and a classmate from the University of Queensland went on to form a homegrown venture capital firm in Silicon Valley. Despite knowing very little about venture capital and knowing nobody in Silicon Valley, the Brisbane lads managed to make several successful investments including a seed investment in PayPal.  In doing so they were  instrumental in entirely reorienting PayPal’s business model towards its successful path of a $1.5 billion acquisition by ebay.

Since returning home, Peter operated his own very profitable porfolio of internet businesses from his home office which he subsequently sold. Recently he founded and was the sole investor in Fishburners, a thriving nonprofit community for startups in Sydney. He now mentors and sits on the advisory board of numerous local startups. He is also a PhD student of entrepreneurship.

Peter’s special interest is in creative structuring of funds suited to the patchwork Australian investment landscape which capitalises on recent shifts in internet business dynamics, and is more equitable for the portfolio company founders.
